Give-away and Miscellaneous

When my granddaughter Rowan comes over to stay all night at Grandma Amy's house we always have to get these doll toilets down off the guest bathroom shelf for her to play with before her bath.  She names everyone...the daddy toilet...the mommy toilet....the sister toilet....

The one above one is her favorite.   She call this the baby.

This is my favorite. I don't see little doll toilets very often in antique stores and I know better than to visit Ebay.  That could be too addictive.  The hunt is the fun part of finding a new thing for a collection and Ebay is way too easy anyway!  I love looking through aisles of antiques and shelves full of junk and then.....there it is .....score... a win.....a toilet!!!!!     That sounds so funny when I type it!  I like that I just have to dust these every so often.  No messy toilet bowl cleaner and scrub brushes involved!

I don't know how I got these little hotel soaps above.  I did have a lot more but threw most of them out and kept the neat ones.  I remember taking a 2 week trip with my Grandma and Grandpa when I was in high school.  We either stayed at Holiday Inn or Best Western.  Those were the two most popular hotels back then.  Grandpa was happy if he could get a room for $25.00 - $30.00 a night.  Can you even imagine what kind of hotel that would buy you today.....yikes I hate to think about it!

I bought this little sewing chest and apparently I need to dust this little sewing chest!  I am definitely not up on my dusting!  The top has a seashell screwed to the top for the bowl.  There is a cork for pins and needles.  I don't know why there is holes in the little wooden shoes/boots?  If anyone wants to guess and tell me what you think they are for I would love to hear what you think.

This is my community workout group "Dog Days" .  We meet at 6:00 p.m.  They also have one that meets at 6:00 a.m. but that is too early for my blood.  I stay up too late.  I like to go out in the evening when it is over 100 degrees and do 30 of three different squats and other brutal exercises for 20 minutes followed by a 2 mile run. ( Ha! Ha!)  Why do I do this?...it is all of us doing it together that keeps me coming back.  We have all ages and all sizes and all skills. It is so hard to do a intense workout by myself.  Also sometime after I turned 45 if I even look at food I gain weight! So sad..... so off to work I go.....hi ho....hi ho.......

In honor of my "Dog Days" workout we are giving away a set of my "Dazzling Dog" patterns to one random winner who posts to this blog entry about one of your collections.

Keep Cool!  Amy

  7. As far as the wooden shoes on your sewing chest, it appears they are shoe molds. I maybe wrong.
I collect dolls. Realistic dolls. So real that one day my daughter took one to the grocery store wrapped in a blanket and this lady was talking to it. She thought it was real. Yea, real funny! I have started my own doll furniture collection. I'm loving it.

  11. I collect antique sewing machines (and fabric). My guess for the holes in the wooden boots is maybe there were dowels for spools of thread? I can't tell the scale from the photo, maybe it is too small for that.

  14. Oh my gosh, I have never seen little toilets like those. They're super cute and yes, it does sound funny. (I would love your address though as I have the perfect thing for your toilet collection)

I have a collection that sadly has remained packed since moving to this house in 1994. It makes me very sad to think about but I have nowhere to put it in my house. When (IF is probably a better word) we get around to redoing my kitchen I WILL have shelves installed into the wall above the table to display this collection. I have an entire cereamic canister set that I believe is the complete set. It has the blue willow design on each one and even has the liquid canisters for oil and vinegar plus all the very small spice containers. My favorite one is the salt box complete with leather hinges and wooden top. Inside that box is a handwritten note from the woman who brought this from England when they moved to the United States. They had to move back to England and she gave this set to my Mom. That note is dated by her and in her note she stated that the canister set was approx. 160 yrs old then. My Mom has been gone now since 1982 and this woman gave that to my Mom way, WAY back, I'm guessing around late 1960's. There are only one or two cracks in the entire set of these canisters and all are in the lids with one lid cracked diagonaly across the top but was glued years ago. I really miss seeing these daily but they just can't be displayed here. :( It's a beautiful set.

I really would love your address please?

  15. OMG! Those doll toliets are too cute. I'll have to pay attention when I'm thrifting. Don't think I've ever seen one. Evidently, I collect fabric:) That's what DH says. I admit to collecting autographed children's books. Take care!

  17. I wonder if the little holes in the boots is for putting your embroidery scissors. I can't tell what size the holes are,but the tips of the embroidery scissors are usually pointy and sharp. Just a guess.

  18. I collect vintage brooches. You know the sparkly kind your mum or grandma would wear to tea! I have them mounted on black velvet inside and old mirror frame and I try to wear one every day or so, then I don't have to dust them as much!
