Playing With Sticks

This sculpture is located outside the front door of the Mulvane Art Museum on the Washburn campus in Topeka, Kansas. The artist is the internationally known Patrick Dougherty of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He has built over 200 sculptures all over the world. This sculpture uses native dogwood and willow branches. It will be up for two years. You can walk through the tunnel of woven sticks and doorways. It is beyond cool. Can you imagine having this in your backyard to play in! To learn more go to

This sculpture is also made by Patrick Dougherty and is in my home town of Lawrence, Kansas on the Kansas University campus. I love how he built it around a existing tree.

This is a close-up of one of the doorways in Topeka.

This sculpture of horses is located at the Kansas City Zoo. I love this kind of recycling.
