A quilt that I made years ago from a pattern in Better Homes and Gardens American Patchwork and Quilting. It was one block and I made it into four. |
Fourth of July is coming up soon! Some of my family is getting together at my Mom and Dad's cabin at the lake. I have packed my playing cards, and air mattress and I am ready to go. I am looking forward to Hand and Foot, Liverpool Rummy and Skip-Bo...all card games. When I think of the Fourth of July I think of homemade ice cream, chocolate sheetcake, burgers on the grill, fireworks and family at Mom and Dads old cabin. We were probably there every other weekend growing up. It gave my siblings and I wonderful childhood memories.
This is a photo of the Fourth of July tree that I put up every year at my husbands veterinary clinic.
This is another kind of arrangement. This is my collection of shoe horns. I just love old doll furniture too.
In honor of the Fourth of July. We are giving away our "Fourth of July" little dog pattern. Comment on a Fourth of July memory to enter. We will draw a winner at random from the posts on Friday July 6th.
Have a great week!
Oh, and you didn't mention the 'Bring up Father'! Love it!! Oh so many - but really loved when we had our 'huge' family reunion at my cousin's camp on the lake - water, fishing, hiking, and FOOD all day. Ending with a private fireworks display (lake was privately owned by several families) and falling asleep with your s'more melting in your hand.
ReplyDeleteA favorite memory was going to the country where all my 11 aunts and uncles families met to have an old fashioned cookout complete with hand cranked ice cream and watching the fireworks over the cow pond lying on a blanket on the ground.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite 4th of July memory is having fun with sparklers. To me they were magical. As an adult, I am appalled to see children running around with red hot wires shooting off sparks. I am too old.
ReplyDeleteCanada Day memories here,,,but my brother-in-law & his wife were wed on July 4th. Does that count? LOL Happy 4th to you all.
ReplyDeleteMy parents had a wonderful group of friends - 7 couples - and we always got together for the 4th of July at "Aunt" Regina and "Uncle" Paul's for a picnic. They had a GREAT view of the fireworks at the local amusement park from their backyard. Sparklers and watermelon (the kind with seeds and FLAVOR - the seedless watermelons that you get today are just NOT as flavorful and you can't spit the seeds - what fun is that????. Love your little dog quilt!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite and most blessed memory is the 4th of July when my youngest girls were 5 & 6. We were at the lake just before sundown. There was a festival on one side and a clown was giving away balloons. Eventually he ran out the darker it got. Of course my girls jumped at the chance for a balloon. Right before the fireworks began the little girl next to us sitting on her blanket accidentally let go and lost hers. My daughter saw the girl crying & asked if she could give her balloon to her, and she did!!! One of the proudest moments of my life! A 4th to remember for me.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite memory of the 4th of July is the one when I was stationed in Japan. It was 1976, so we were missing all the bicentennial celebrations in the States. The wonderful people of Yokosuka threw a fantastic party for the base with unbelievable fireworks. I was a little less homesick that day.
ReplyDeleteWhile dating my now-husband, we planned a date on one July 4th to go to dinner and then see the fireworks at Town Lake in Austin. Well, we lost track of time while eating and talking, and were running late for the fireworks. While driving there, the show started, so my husband pulled over in downtown next to a small one story building. We climbed up on the cab of his pickup truck, then onto the roof of the building. We stood up there and watched the rest of the fireworks show.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite memory is sitting on the hood of our car when I was young and watching the fireworks go off over San Francisco Bay. It was so exciting and just something different that we had not done before.
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute pattern, reminds me of our Pepper girl we lost 1 year ago. Growing up we could only get sparklers as fireworks were not allowed in our town. My siblings and I had such fun writing our names mid-air and watching those sparklers glow. Fun memories
