Mary Smith came up with this adorable crochet Firefly bug that is based on my "Snugly Bug" quilt pattern. I simply screamed with glee when I saw it for the first time. Mine will have a place of honor in my studio. I just love it! It is even more adorable in person. I took it to a family reunion and they all loved it too. She took my two dimensional drawing and came up with this three dimensional darling doll. It just makes me SMILE!

If you know how to crochet and would like to make one for yourself go to :http://www.ravelry.com/designers/mary-smith.
You can get the pattern for 50% off using the code: BRADLEYFAN. The code will be good through July 10.
In the last twelve months 41.75 million people went camping! It is growing more and more as families get the camping fever and hotel rooms get more expensive and eating out for a family is harder to afford. There are even TV shows now about camping and RV's. I watch "Flippin' RVs". http://www.gactv.com/gac/shows_hrlgd/ I suddenly want to restore a old airstream trailer. This will have to happen in my next lifetime but I like to dream.
I had so much fun designing campers that I went a little crazy and designed 10 family members, two pets, a tent and some trees. You can even change the hairstyles on some of the family members to customize your family into a wall hanging. You can add your name to a sign to personalize your campsite. You could even make one block and turn it into a pillow. Let the fun begin!
Thanksgiving is coming and it is always fun to find new (old) decorations to decorate with. These are my new decorations this year. I found all these turkey cookie cutters in a antique mall and used some ticky tack to keep them standing up in my kitchen window. You could do the same with Christmas, Valentines and Easter cookie cutters.

My Mom gave me this set. Most of the candles are from the Gurley Company and sold in stores like Ben Franklin. I have wonderful childhood memories of spending my allowance at our local Ben Franklin store. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gurley_Novelty
I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving! I bought three new doll buggies. I don't know how or why this collection started. Probably because I loved playing with dolls when I was young. They will join the three below.

I got super excited when I came across the garage for my metal doll house. I love that the garage door goes up and down. I have most of the furniture now so I am buying the accessories. The smaller the accessory the more expensive it is. They said those were the pieces that were lost or swallowed. I passed on the $10.00 dust pan and the $15.00 trash can but last year I splurged on the $20.00 telephone. (Don't tell my husband!)
I also couldn't pass on a new wheel barrow for my collection. I loved playing with a little one that my Grandma Bess had when I was young. I now have four glass ones in different sizes. Perfect for filling with different candies.

I bought several gifts for family members but I can't post those photos. I think they might actually read my blog.

My son-in-law John is a great cook and always trying new recipes. I tried this and I loved it! You can go to http://www.justapinch.com/recipes/main-course/chicken/crispy-cheddar-chicken-4.html

It was so simple. It bakes in a 9" x 13". I used what I had on hand. It called for chicken breasts but I used boneless chicken thighs. It called for cheddar cheese and I used Colby cheese. It called for Ritz crackers and I used Club crackers. It tasted just like his recipe. Delicious! I can't wait for the leftovers.

I hope you all have a wonderful week!
We just drove 7 1/2 hours to Oronoco, Minnesota this last weekend to go to Gold Rush Days. Hundreds of dealers from throughout the region fill over a thousand booths located throughout the community. We did Oronoco on Friday and Rochester Gold Rush on Saturday. The fairgrounds (52 acres) in Rochester, Minnesota was the same wonderful thing. Oronoco was all outside but Rochester most of it was in all the fairground buildings. It was heaven to me! My husband and I had so much fun. We split up and used our phones to send photos back and forth that we thought the other one was interested in. Then we would meet up in the shade and trade stories. You need really comfortable shoes, sunscreen, a hat (for Oronoco) and cash. A lot of them will take checks but very few took credit cards. We drove through Iowa and enjoyed the rolling hills of corn fields.

I took photos of things that made me smile. There were so many unusual things. You see a little bit of everything! Next week I will share photos of the treasures that I bought.

The food vendors do a great job too. One vendor has been making home-made ice cream sandwiches for about 30 years. They are so popular that customers will buy them in bulk and stockpile them in their freezers! I managed to eat two of these. I wanted to try the fried cheese curds but never got around to it.

You can stay away from antique stores all year and just hit these two shows and see everything at once. I felt the prices were good too. There is so much competition between booths that they price things reasonable. The fun part is the haggling to get a better deal.

<span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">We are so excited that we have a brand new website.

My daughter Ashley and I have been working on it for awhile with my daughter doing 90% of the work. To celebrate this big occasion make a comment about the last antique or flea market find you bought for a chance to win a pattern of your choice.
I just got back from Nebraska City, Nebraska. I was invited to speak at the Heritage Needlework Guild. I hope they invite me back....wonderful ladies!!!! I don't think I have had so much help setting up and taking down. They no how to impress the speaker!
My friend Rosie (quilter extraordinaire) made the 6 hour round trip with me. Her husbands cousin Sheri belongs to the guild. I put them in charge of selling patterns and catching up with each other. We had fun driving except for the near death experience of a *%#&! car passing five other cars coming right at us in our lane. Other then that shaky experience it went smoothly. Thank goodness I was up on my defensive driving.
Sheri was working on these sweet quilted needle cases before guild. She has made 89 of them! She cut up an old quilt that needed a new purpose to make them. I should of taken a photo of one of them folded like a book. She added embroidery, felt for the needles and a binding. This is my kind of recycling!
Another Quilt Market has come and gone. It is a LOT of preparation to get ready for. I am so excited to go and even more excited when it is over. We haven't been to the last two markets because my daughter and business partner Ashley had twins. We flew to Pittsburgh, PA. which was a great place to introduce our new "Pirates" quilt because it is the home of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Before I left I made up a wall hanging for market using my "Dogs & Cats" Pattern. I used my Kansas State University mascot fabric. I then reversed and printed out "KSU" and "GO CATS!" off my printer. You can use your own mascot fabric or make the blocks promoting a soccer team or a high school team.

You can also use your embroidery machines and embroider your own dog and cats names on their collars.

Make a comment about a dog, cat or pet in your life to win a chance to have your very own "Cat & Dog" pattern. We will announce the winner next Monday on Memorial Day.

Last week I did two quilt guild talks. We don't do any retail shows except market where we sell to our wholesale and distributor customers. I always meet the most wonderful quilters. I always come home so happy. So if you are feeling sad go spend some time with a bunch of zany fun loving quilters!

These are my fun ladies taking my workshop in Lancaster, Kansas. I had to practically beg them for questions they were that good! The Quirky Quilters Quilt Guild meets once a month and once a year they invite a speaker in for a trunk show and I was it. I felt very honored!

I then went just a little bit south to Baldwin, Kansas. The last time I spoke to them was 2004. I now find myself being a repeat speaker to guilds. Yea! I love getting to see quilters again. This is a very active group. They call off the roll to see who has show and tell. When they do this everyone gets to see the person with the name and the show and tell. It's a great way to learn names.

Sharon brought this quilt for her show-and-tell that was made up of "Crown Royal" bags for a customer. I think I heard that the customer was a bartender because that's a lot of drinking!

Kelly emailed be some photos of her recent quilts using my patterns. She used mainly batiks. I love how batiks cut and don't fray. They are a dream to work with. Kelly did a great job!!!
I took my granddaughter Rowan to her piano lesson last week and I spent a quick 45minutes at a nearby antique store for some retail therapy. It was 85% flea market 15% antique store but I still enjoyed it. With getting ready for quilt market and calving, I will take any escape. I took a bunch of photos of things that made me smile so maybe they will bring a smile to your face too.
This last week we had twins...the four legged kind! We are in calving season. I am the daytime checker while my husband is at work. It keeps me busy doing this and working on my next quilt design. Next month is quilt market in Pittsburgh, Pa. and I will be really busy getting ready. Don't tell my husband but I enjoy this chore of getting out in the sunshine and walking around our pasture. It is a chance to stretch and not be hunched over a sewing machine or cutting table. I need to come up for air...I mean out of my sewing studio. I just get too excited working on new stuff!

Our twins grand kids will be turning one this week too. Here are Nate and Norah in baby jail. They play so well together and are really happy babies. I don't know where this last year went. My daughter Ashley and her husband thought about sending out "we survived" invitations instead of birthday invitations!
It is one pattern that you can make two ways. The pattern comes with full size patterns, full size

placement sheets, and instructions for a 46 ½” x 57 ½” quilt.

Sometimes things don't always go as planned around here. Here is a photo of my fancy photography studio. I love to precariously perch myself on top of a ladder and hang over as far as I can to get the center of the quilt. I like to do this without snow drifts, jumping over mud puddles, gusting wind and preferably on a sunny day when the sun is directly overhead. None of this happened on this particular day. I had to scrap this shoot for a nicer sunnier day which have been far and few between in Kansas this winter.

I arrive when the doors open ready to find treasures. I get antiques and my husband gets homemade pie that they sell at their concession stand. One booth had a lot of holiday antiques. I love decorating with old decorations for the holidays. They are hard to find!
I bought this little framed print of the American Flag for $12.00. In July, I will set it out with my little Uncle Sam that was made in occupied Japan and my two old glass bells. One bell is a bank and one had Liberty maraschino cherries in it.
When my five year old granddaughter Rowan comes over I like to have a hidden surprise for her. This week it will be a set of Monopoly playing pieces in her dollhouse toy chest. I was so fascinated with these when I was young. I always wanted to play with the iron or the dog. I still play with irons!!!
PUMPKIN BREAD
1 spice cake mix
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 can pumpkin
Cinnamon or butterscotch chips – ½ bag
Nuts (I used a cup of pecans)

Mix all together, put in bread pan and bake at 350◦ for about an hour.
Test with a toothpick. This is very moist. (It's really more like cake.
You could probably bake this in a cake pan, for less time in the oven.)
I baked it in two bread pans instead of one and used butterscotch chips.

It happens to the best of us. Fusible web gunk on the iron! I put my iron down on a piece that was upside down and the next thing I knew .... it was stuck to the bottom of my iron. Now when this happens I don't worry. You take your warm iron and iron an old dryer sheet. Presto....it's clean again. You can even Google uses for dryer sheets. One website has 101 uses. Go figure!
We ordered a new TV over the Internet. I love how crystal clear it is. It came shipped in a box in a box. The outer box was filled with these little chip board Swiss cheese things. I was so impressed with them that I had to blog about them. I hope this means they won't make another Styrofoam peanut. These little things can be recycled. At our house and my husbands veterinary clinic we recycle EVERYTHING. Kudos for the person who invented these!!!

My granddaughter Rowan got two of these beds from her Grandpa Mike and Grandma Connie for her Zombie dolls. They designed and made the beds themselves for her Christmas. I thought her Monster dolls were crazy and now she has Zombie dolls. The Monster dolls are one of the fastest growing brands within the entire toy industry. Barbie sales are on a decline. The dolls are designed to help girls "celebrate their own freaky flaws,"says Mattel's Cathy Cline.

I went into a antique store today and these two characters walked out with me. Mr and Mrs Potato Head were first manufactured and distributed by Hasbro in 1952 and cost .98 cents. It was even the first toy to be advertised on television. The toy was originally made as separate plastic parts with pushpins that could be stuck into a real potato or other vegetable. However, due to complaints regarding rotting vegetables and new government safety regulations, Hasbro began including a plastic potato body within the toy set. Do these bring back memories?

German Apple Pancakes

GERMAN APPLE PANCAKES
4 eggs
3/4 cup flour
1/2 teas. salt
3/4 cup milk
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teas. cinnamon
4 T. butter, divided
2 medium apples, peeled and thinly sliced
Preheat oven to 400. Place 2 pie pans in the oven to heat.
Beat the eggs, flour, salt and milk on medium speed for
1 minute. In a small bowl, combine the sugar and cinnamon
and set aside. Take the pans out of the oven and put 2 T. butter
in each pan, moving it around to coat the bottom and sides.
Spread the apple slices in the bottom of the pans. Pour half
the batter in each pan. Sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar.
Bake at 400 for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and puffy.
Serve warm. Serves 4. ( I say more like 2!)

I used 9” cake pans and added pecans on top of the apple slices. I baked them for 25 minutes to make sure they weren’t doughy. We ate them with a little bit of syrup on the side for dipping! You could also have extra cinnamon sugar to sprinkle on top. One of my top recipes that I have tried this year .... Delicious!!

My husband and Mom loved them. We thought they could be served as a dessert with vanilla ice cream.

Thank you to my friend Kathie for giving me this recipe!!!!
