Free Pattern and a Trip Down Memory Lane

The winner of last week's gift giveaway is Jeanie.  Thanks to everyone for all the great gift ideas, I am going to get to work on those!

I recently bought a Ken doll for my granddaughter Rowan.  She has been playing with my daughter Ashley's 1980's Ken doll.  When we saw Rowan holding both of the dolls my daughter and I just lost it with laughter!  Wow, has Ken changed into a metrosexual man!  He came with skin tight jeans too.  If he had Barbie's chest I would have thought he was a girl.   Times are changing!  Post to this blog entry to vote on which Ken doll you like the best for a chance to win a pattern of your choice.  We will draw the winner next Friday 4/27.

I was born in 1959 the birth year of the Barbie.  When my sister Julie and I got our Barbies she got Ken and Barbie.  I got Midge and Alan.  I still have them.  They are somewhere in this house...  I just loved playing Barbies with my friends.  Don't you just love the hair on Midge and the amount of space between her eyes and her eyebrows.  I thought she was sooooooo beautiful.

Have a great weekend!  Amy

  1. I won....I won! Thank you so very much. I'm just thrilled!

And thanks for the memory lane trip. I had forgotten about Alan. I've got to vote for the old timer Ken. Even though he has the hard plastic hair, I actually like that better than the new, short, sticking out hair.

Thank you again for your generosity!

  2. Old. I wouldn't want a man that is prettier than me. It is bad enough that they don't gain wait like women, and can loose it more easily. Pretty is just wrong,

  4. I like the old Ken. A man should look like a man.

  5. I too like the old Ken. I'm just stuck in the old days I guess. The new one is just too pretty.

  7. I too was born in 1959. Great year and hands down, the old Ken is MUCH better. I've seen the new ones and just don't understand. I guess that could be my age talking but yea, do not like the new ones. Thankfully my husband doesn't look like they assume the modern man does. LOL

  9. I had a Barbie with no hair. She came with 3 wigs to change her look. I loved playing with the wigs! The original Ken is my favorite. My brother's name is Ken. In high school, he was given a Ken doll with his basketball uniform and number. Such fun! Have a wonderful week!

  10. I love a man who looks like a man. LOL. Who wants that competition ... Or having to fight for space and time in the bathroom! With that said, I'll go with the old Ken every day if the week! Thanks for the fun post and the opportunity to win.

  11. I have to stick with the Ken of my 80's childhood. He looks more like Ken!

  12. I like the old Ken! I had a Midge doll too. I still have her and all her clothes. I'll have to dig her out of her box and see how she's doing. :)

  13. Is nothing sacred. At my age I can't stand too much change. I still with the original Ken. If he can deal with my saggy body, I can deal with his plastic hair.

  15. Either one is better than the fuzzy haired one I had years ago! :) I played with Barbies with my friend Kathy Haggerty until we were 14 years old.
We built them a Ranch style house and a houseful of furniture - cardboard at it's best! And I sewed maternity clothes for Barbie when she and Ken were expecting - my Barbie was styling even in her delicate condition...
