Alien Invasion

My sister-in-law Robbie just sent me this photo.  What a hoot!  If your seams don't match and your block is upside down in your quilt .... just go next door and karate chop something!  What a great way to get your quilting aggressions out!  I needed this earlier in the week.  I cut two strips wrong and had both of them on the sides of my wall-hanging.  Can you spell SEAM RIPPER in all caps!  I also found a mistake in a new pattern that we just had printed for market.  We paid to have it reprinted.  Sigh.  We have had a great track record and I don't want to spoil it now.

Free Pattern and a Trip Down Memory Lane

I recently bought a Ken doll for my granddaughter Rowan.  She has been playing with my daughter Ashley's 1980's Ken doll.  When we saw Rowan holding both of the dolls my daughter and I just lost it with laughter!  Wow, has Ken changed into a metrosexual man!  He came with skin tight jeans too.  If he had Barbie's chest I would have thought he was a girl.   Times are changing!  Post to this blog entry to vote on which Ken doll you like the best for a chance to win a pattern of your choice.  We will draw the winner next Friday 4/27.

I was born in 1959 the birth year of the Barbie.  When my sister Julie and I got our Barbies she got Ken and Barbie.  I got Midge and Alan.  I still have them.  They are somewhere in this house...  I just loved playing Barbies with my friends.  Don't you just love the hair on Midge and the amount of space between her eyes and her eyebrows.  I thought she was sooooooo beautiful.

I am always amazed (but not really surprised) at all the time and materials that quilters donate to support great causes.  Being a quilter seems to go along with having a big heart.  Just this week, we got two emails from two different quilt groups who made the Snugly Bugly quilt to donate to non-profit organizations.

This group of seven (Val , Carol , Lorriane, Sue, Val E, June  and Deanna) from Australia donated their quilt to the Ronald McDonald House, a great organization that helps families with sick children.  For more information: http://rmhc.org/what-we-do/ronald-mcdonald-house/

 Jane made and donated this quilt to the Guiding Eyes for the Blind School.  The Guiding Eyes for the Blind School volunteers train and socialize puppies to better prepare the puppies to become guide dogs for the seeing impaired.  http://www.guidingeyes.org/
